The Newark Land Bank is a division of Invest Newark, a NJ nonprofit corporation. The Newark Land Bank was established by the State of New Jersey enabling legislation P.L. 2019, c 159, and City of Newark Municipal Ordinance 6PSF-g adopted on October 16, 2019. The Newark Land Bank strategically acquires, maintains, and repurposes vacant, abandoned, and foreclosed properties, and efficiently returns them to productive use. Specifically, the Newark Land Bank was created to boost homeownership, reduce blight, create affordable and market- rate housing, and increase M/W/DBE developer or subcontractor capacity. The Newark Land Bank utilizes a variety of sales programs to make homeownership and land purchases accessible to all Newark residents.
Move-In Ready Properties are for first-time home buyers. These properties have been fully renovated by local MWBE contractors.
The Section 8 Homeownership Conversion Program is a partnership of public and private sector stakeholders to increase homeownership opportunities for low-and moderate-income families.
The Side Lot Sale provides qualified property owners contiguous to a Newark Land Bank vacant lot an opportunity to purchase the Newark Land Bank to plant a garden, add an addition to their home, install a driveway or garage, or simply expand the footprint of their property.
The Newark Land Bank lists RFP/RFQ/BIDS opportunities for developers/contractors. At the very top of the Newark Land Bank homepage is the RFP/RFQ/BIDS opportunities link. You can also click on the Purchase A Property tab. There you will see the Contractors/Developers tab, click on it, and you will be directed to vacant land, specifically for development purposes.
